To die at the Elysée Palace in the arms of your mistress in not a common story, this is what actually happened to Félix Faure, President of the IIIrd Republic, on February 16, 1899. For a century, this misfortune has made the people smirk, however, although we know the anecdote, we’ve never delved into the true love story between Marguerite Steinheil and President Félix Faure and the true complicity they shared. And yet, this is a story which, at the end of the XIXth century, allows us to discover in Marguerite, not a courtesan, but a woman of passion, a true modern heroine whose beauty and honesty will seduce the President.
It is also a way for us to describe without compromise the customs of a time and its relations to power, its taboos, moral codes and human weaknesses, because that story is about human beings who loved, suffered and betrayed.
